Google Announces Changes to Google My Business Listings

2022 brings some big changes to Google My Business listings. Read this article to find out what you need to know and what you can do to prepare for the changes.

Google recently announced two major changes related to Google My Business listings.

The first change is a name change: Google My Business is now Google Business Profile. This is purely a rebrand and is not indicative of any functional changes.

The second change has to do with the GMB app. Google is letting users know that the app will be discontinued sometime in 2022. In their communications, they state that business owners should continue to manage their Google Business Profiles directly through Google Maps and Google Search results instead of logging in to the dashboard.

Google has said that this move is particularly strategic for larger businesses with multiple locations but will still support customer and prospect connections for small businesses.

RevLocal will continue to optimize and manage our client’s online presence on Google Maps and Search using the tools at our disposal as GMBs transition away from the app.

As a business owner, these changes won’t affect your business’s search rankings. The major shift business owners will experience is where they update information and manage reviews–namely, on Maps and Search.

RevLocal specializes in Local Search for small businesses and multi-location franchises. To learn more about our Local Search plan and our other services, check out our What We Do info page or contact us for a free digital marketing consultation!
